At St. Mary, athletics isn’t just about competition—it’s about character, community, and Christ-centered development. As parents and guardians, you play a vital role in shaping this experience. Your encouragement, sportsmanship, and involvement set the tone for your child’s journey both on and off the field.

This page will walk you through the expectations, requirements, and tools you need to help your student thrive—while helping ensure that athletics remain a safe, positive, and mission-driven experience for everyone.

Sport Parent Code of Conduct

Your involvement as a parent or guardian extends far beyond driving to practices and attending games. You are a cornerstone of our athletic culture. The Sport Parent Code of Conduct outlines our shared expectations around communication, discipline, teamwork, and sportsmanship. Whether your child is in their first year of sports or a returning athlete, this document helps set a foundation of trust and collaboration between families, coaches, and student-athletes. It also highlights consequences for conduct that could affect a student’s or family’s ability to participate.

As a parent or guardian of a student-athlete participating in a St. Mary athletic program, I agree to:

  1. Support my child’s participation in a positive and encouraging manner.

  2. Respect coaches, officials, players, and other parents at all times.

  3. Ensure my child attends practices and games on time and prepared.

  4. Communicate responsibly and respectfully with coaches and team leaders.

  5. Refrain from negative comments or gestures toward players, coaches, officials, or other spectators.

  6. Model good sportsmanship for my child by remaining calm, respectful, and supportive during competitions.

  7. Resolve conflicts constructively and follow proper channels for raising concerns.

  8. Uphold the mission of St. Mary Athletics, which promotes character, community, and Christ-centered development.

By signing this Code of Conduct, I understand that failure to uphold these standards may result in disciplinary actions, including being asked not to attend games or events.

Spectator Code of Conduct & Responsibilities

We believe every game is an opportunity not just for our athletes to compete—but for our entire community to show what it means to lead with faith, dignity, and respect. The Spectator Code of Conduct & Responsibilities outlines the standards of behavior we expect from all fans, family members, and guests at athletic events. From cheering respectfully to modeling Christ-like conduct in the face of adversity, your role as a spectator shapes the environment our students experience. Please review this document carefully and help us foster a culture where our values are visible from the bleachers to the sidelines.

The following expectations have been established by the St. Mary Athletic Association. These expectations apply to all spectators—parents, guardians, grandparents, siblings, friends, or others—who attend a St. Mary athletic event.

Spectator Expectations:

  • Encourage good sportsmanship by demonstrating positive support for all players, coaches, and officials.

  • Refrain from yelling at or criticizing athletes, coaches, or officials.

  • Allow coaches to coach and referees to officiate without interference.

  • Avoid coaching or directing players from the sidelines or stands.

  • Be respectful of opposing teams and their supporters.

  • Keep sideline conversations positive, especially when around children.

  • Follow facility rules and expectations, including remaining in spectator-designated areas.

  • Promote an environment free of drugs, alcohol, and tobacco.

Consequences for Violating the Spectator Code of Conduct:

  • Verbal warning from a coach, board member, or official.

  • Removal from the game or premises.

  • Suspension from attending future games.

  • Permanent ban from St. Mary athletic events if necessary.

Our children watch our behavior. Let us model the sportsmanship and respect we wish to see in them.

St. Mary Athletics thrives because of our dedicated parent volunteers. Whether you have time to coach, assist with events, or support fundraising efforts, your contribution makes a difference.

Volunteer Roles Include:

  • Coaching or assistant coaching.

  • Event setup and game-day logistics.

  • Managing concessions or team communications.

  • Fundraising for equipment and programs.
